This April, Hampton took its Explore the Highway with Hampton Save-A-Landmark campaign on the road for a 66-day road trip across the eight states of Route 66. Jim Conkle, national preservationist and historian, led the Hampton Route 66 CaravanTM -traveling pier to pier from Santa Monica to Chicago.  Click here to obtain day to day Route 66 Caravan details and photos.

Deemed as the Route's single largest recognition trip in history, the journey included "Roadside Attraction" sign postings, festivals, parades, landmark refurbishment's and more, and it also created the first unofficial travel guide to teach Route 66 travelers its real history.

Why Save America's Mother Road?

Think about the movies you have seen in your life that celebrate this American road -- the first that linked Chicago to the West -- and its many landmarks and unusual stops.

Route 66 is more than a road -- it's a part of American Nostalgia that captures the spirit of our freedom to travel. Route 66 winds its way through eight states. Millions of travelers stopped at its unusual shops, hotels, and scenic landmarks on the road to search for a better life…or just a great experience. There's no other route in the world that illustrates the scenery of our country and the value that American "travel by car" experience. Yet with the introduction of interstates and the popularity of air travel, its lights, landmarks, and history have begun to fade.
